Coalition Joins in Call for Action on Career and Technical Education Legislation

The STEM Education Coalition has joined over 400 educational organizations, private businesses, and professional societies in a joint letter asking Congress to reauthorize the Carl D. Perkins Career & Technical Education Act. The letter follows the Coalition’s response to the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions’ request for recommendations on the bill.

Reauthorizing the Perkins Act is critical for the continued economic prosperity of the United States and ensures the country remain a leader in global competitiveness. As Congress sets out on this task, we urge you and your colleagues to focus on areas where improvements can be made to current law, building upon its past successes and enhancing aspects of the Perkins Act, which will help to better serve both workers and employers.

The STEM Education Coalition works aggressively to raise awareness in Congress about the critical role of STEM education in the US. Current workforce demands are changing the STEM conversation as employers are reporting a shortage of skilled workers to fill in-demand positions. Career and technical education (CTE) programs throughout the country are central to overcoming this skills gap. Ensuring that there is a pipeline for all STEM jobs is critical for the continued economic prosperity of the United States and ensures the country remains a leader in global competitiveness.
