Senate Appropriations Holds STEM Education Hearing

On March 15, the United States Senate Committee on Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies held a hearing entitled, “STEM Education: Preparing Students for the Careers of Today and the Future”. Witnesses at the hearing included:  Sarah Tucker, Ph.D., Chancellor, West Virginia Council for Community & Technical College Education; Larry Plank, Ed.S., Director K-12 Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics Education, Hillsborough County Public Schools; Neil Lamb, Ph.D., VP for Educational Outreach, HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology; and Caroline King, Chief Policy and Strategic Officer, Washington STEM.

The hearing covered a wide range of topics including career and technical education, funding of the Every Student Succeeds Act, and jobs and innovation. More information and a full video of the hearing can be found on the subcommittee’s website.
