STEM Education Coalition Submits Comments on Department of Education’s Proposed Priority on Meaningful Learning Opportunities
The STEM Education Coalition submitted comments to the U.S. Department of Education on its proposed supplemental priority, “Supporting Meaningful Learning Opportunities for Students.” The Coalition—representing more than 800 education, business, and professional organizations—appreciates the Department’s emphasis on high-quality instructional materials, career-connected learning, and educator professional development. In its comments, the Coalition urged the Department to make STEM central to the definition of “meaningful learning” by explicitly including science and engineering alongside math and computer science; promote hands-on, interdisciplinary, and out-of-school STEM learning; expand partnerships between schools, employers, and community-based organizations; and strengthen educator preparation in STEM fields. These recommendations underscore the Coalition’s mission to ensure all students have access to engaging, real-world STEM experiences that prepare them for the innovation-driven workforce of the future. The full comments will posted publicly here.
